The Glasgow-based Royal Scottish National Orchestra has announced the appointment of KRISHNA THIAGARAJAN as chief executive, effective in August. He goes to the RSNO after serving as executive director of Orpheus Chamber Orchestra in New York City. Prior to assuming that post in January 2013 Thiagarajan was president of New Jersey’s Symphony in C, and had earlier held the post of senior director of artistic operations at the Rochester (N.Y.) Philharmonic Orchestra. Born in Karlsruhe, Germany, he trained as a pianist and performed throughout the U.S., Europe, and Asia. He is former director of Kammermusikkurs, a chamber-music festival that he founded in 1997 in Dortmund, Germany. Thiagarajan holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music from Indiana University and a doctorate in piano performance from the University of Maryland, College Park.
