The Austin Symphony in Texas has a new app that allows subscribers to view additional content in its 2015-16 printed season brochure by using Android or Apple devices. First, users must download a free app from Blippar, a company that produces visual browsing apps using image-recognition and augmented reality technologies. Then, by hovering mobile devices over certain pictures in the ASO brochure, users can view additional content, such as a video introduction to the season by Music Director Peter Bay. Jason Nicholson, the orchestra’s marketing director, describes a “Harry Potter” effect, referencing the movies’ depiction of newspaper and photos coming to life. The orchestra plans to use the technology throughout the season.
