In Friday’s (6/19) Queens Courier (N.Y.), Angy Altamirano writes that the New York Pops “has found a home in [the NYC borough of] Queens this summer and will be offering thousands of local kids the opportunity to enjoy live music for free. The New York Pops … announced Thursday its inaugural season at its new summer home at Forest Hills Stadium…. For their first performance on Aug. 6, The New York Pops will be joined by … actor, singer and dancer Sutton Foster. The following night on Aug. 7, the orchestra will be joined by the group Pink Martini.… The New York Pops … plans to return the following summer.… ‘With outdoor concerts I feel like it gives a lot more freedom amongst the audience members to … engage in the music in a way that they normally cannot do in the confines of a concert hall,’ said music director and conductor Steven Reineke…. The New York Pops will also expand its Kids in the Balcony program, which provides 100 students free tickets to each of the orchestra’s concerts at Carnegie Hall. At Forest Hills Stadium, the group will offer 1,000 tickets per concert and work with local schools.”
