BRENDA NIENHOUSE, executive director of the Spokane (Wash.) Symphony and Spokane’s Woldson Theater at The Fox since 2005, has been named executive director of the Newport (R.I.) Opera House and Performing Arts Center. She will lead efforts to restore the historic 1867 venue, which is projected to reopen in 2017 on its 150th anniversary as a presenter of music, dance, theater, and other activities. Nienhouse brings to the job more than 30 years of leadership experience in performing arts management and education. A 1982 alumna of the League of American Orchestras’ Orchestra Management Fellowship Program, she held posts at the Finger Lakes Music Festival, the St. Louis Symphony, and the Los Angeles Philharmonic before coming to Spokane.
