The Rochester (N.Y.) Philharmonic Orchestra has appointed JAMES MICK music director of its affiliated youth ensemble, the Rochester Philharmonic Youth Orchestra. The three-year agreement fills a vacancy left by the retirement of DAVID HARMAN at the end of the 2013-14 season following a 21-year tenure. Mick is an assistant professor of music education at Ithaca College in Ithaca, N.Y., a double bass performer, and a clinician with such organizations as the American String Teachers Association, the Midwest Band & Orchestra Clinic, and the New York State School Music Association. A native of Kansas, he holds a Ph.D. in music education from Florida State University, a Master of Music degree from Ithaca College, and a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Texas Christian University.
