Seventy musicians from the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestras teamed with the theatrical ensemble Blue Man Group for a free July 1 concert in Chicago’s Millennium Park, led by CYSO Music Director Allen Tinkham. Presented as part of the Grant Park Music Festival at Jay Pritzker Pavilion, the program featured the CYSO in three complete works: Rachmaninoff’s Symphonic Dances, Op. 45; the Overture to Kabalevsky’s opera Colas Breugnon; and Tchaikovsky’s Capriccio Italien. Together with Blue Man Group, the orchestra also performed a medley of music by Amilcare Ponchielli, Franz von Suppé, and Richard Wagner.
