“The Seattle Symphony has extended music director Ludovic Morlot’s contract for two additional years, through 2019, orchestra administrators announced on Friday,” writes Melissa Davis in Friday’s (7/10) Seattle Times. “Morlot’s original agreement covered the time span of September 2011 through August 2017. ‘Under Ludovic Morlot’s leadership, this organization has experienced an extraordinary transformation,’ said Simon Woods, the orchestra’s president and CEO, in a statement. ‘The music making on stage has been electrifying and inspirational, but what has further distinguished the Morlot era to date is a commitment to expanding the repertoire, challenging traditional programming boundaries and opening up Benaroya Hall to our community.’ Morlot is in his fifth season as music director. In the 2015-16 season, he’ll lead the symphony on a trip to China, release several more recordings on the orchestra’s label and launch a two-year cycle of Beethoven symphonies and piano concertos.” Going forward, the position will be known as the Harriet Overton Stimson Music Director.
