The Pacific Symphony, in California’s Orange County, has announced the appointment of ROGER KALIA as assistant conductor beginning in September 2015. He will succeed ALEJANDRO GUTIÉRREZ, who is returning to his native Costa Rica after three years in the post. Kalia, 30, served most recently as assistant conductor of the Charlotte (N.C.) Symphony and as music director of the Young Musicians Foundation Debut Orchestra in Los Angeles. At the Pacific Symphony he will lead concerts in the orchestra’s Family Musical Mornings series and its Class Act Youth Concerts. Kalia will also serve as music director of the Pacific Symphony Youth Orchestra, which will undertake a ten-day tour to China in 2016 under his direction. Kalia holds a doctoral degree in conducting from Indiana University.
