Administrative: Merit School of Music

CHARLES GRODE has been appointed president and executive director of the Merit School of Music in Chicago, effective September 1. He assumes the post after seventeen years at the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, where he is currently vice president of Negaunee Music Institute, the orchestra’s education and community engagement division. Prior to assuming that post in 2014 Grode was vice president of the CSO’s Institute for Learning, Access and Training. Before joining the CSO staff in 1998 he held posts at the Lyric Opera of Chicago and the Suzuki-Orff School for Young Musicians. Grode holds degrees from Lawrence University (Appleton, Wis.) and Northwestern University.
