The Bakersfield (Calif.) Symphony Orchestra has appointed STILIAN KIROV music director. He assumed the post July 1, concurrently with the start of his tenure as music director of New Jersey’s Symphony in C. Kirov, 31, was formerly associate conductor of the Seattle Symphony. A native of Bulgaria, he holds a bachelor’s degree in orchestral conducting from the Juilliard School and a master’s degree from the Ecole Normale de Musique in Paris, with further studies at Aspen’s American Academy of Conducting and Tanglewood Music Center. Kirov began his musical training in piano and was Gold Medalist in the 2001 Claude Kahn International Piano Competition in Paris.
