The Delaware Symphony Orchestra, based in Wilmington, has announced the appointment of ALAN JORDAN as executive director, effective in September. He goes to the DSO from the Vermont Symphony Orchestra, where he recently stepped down as executive director following a sixteen-year tenure. Prior to that Jordan held administrative posts at the New Hampshire Symphony Orchestra and the Brevard (Fla.) Symphony Orchestra. From 2001 to 2003 he was a member of the League of American Orchestras’ Board of Directors, and currently serves on the League’s Communications Advisory Group. He is also a member of the Steering Committee for New Music for America, an independent orchestral commissioning consortium. A graduate of New England Conservatory with a bachelor’s degree in vocal performance, Jordan began his career as a stage manager at Tanglewood Music Center; as house manager of NEC’s Jordan Hall; and as instrument librarian at NEC. Jordan and his wife, Karen, a choral director, will relocate from Vermont to Wilmington this summer.
