At the end of the 2015-16 season, Kirk Gustafson will be stepping down after 28 years as music director of Colorado’s Grand Junction Symphony Orchestra. Each of four guest conductors, all candidates for music director, will lead one 2015-16 season program. In October and November, Thomas Heuser will lead Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade and Ravel’s Piano Concerto for the Left Hand, as well as works by Dvořák, and Gershwin. Matthew Steven Brown will lead a January program of Sibelius, Tchaikovsky, and Gordeli. Charles Latshaw will lead a January program of Tchaikovsky, Glazunov, and Marquez. In March, Wesley Schulz will conduct music by Gershwin, Rota, Theofanidis, and Copland. Gustafson will lead the GJSO’s season-opening concerts in October, and his final concert as music director in April will feature Verdi’s Requiem, with the Grand Junction Symphony Chorus.
