The Spokane Symphony and Music Director Eckart Preu will perform music written by composers in their twenties and thirties at an August 12 concert on the grounds of Arbor Crest Wine Cellars in Spokane. The “Soirée on the Edge” program will feature Anna Clyne’s Wonderful Day, Conor Brown’s Bablook: Planet of Hands, and Flashbacks by Jakub Ciupinski, a Polish-born composer who has recorded electronica/world music under the stage name Jakub Żak. Also on the program is Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 4 (“Italian”), written when the composer was 24. Concertgoers may bring blankets or lawn chairs, and Arbor Crest’s own wines as well as sandwiches and snacks will be available for purchase. A second Spokane Symphony concert at Arbor Crest on August 19 will feature music by Handel, C.P.E. Bach, Philip Glass, Gabriela Lena Frank, Narong Prangcharoen, and David Armstrong, the orchestra’s assistant second principal violin.
