Maryland’s Annapolis Symphony Orchestra will perform its annual free Labor Day Weekend concert on September 6 at Quiet Waters Park in Annapolis, led by José-Luis Novo, in his eleventh season as music director. The ASO’s 5:30pm pops program will feature music by Copland, Gershwin, and Anderson, as well as music from the movie Frozen and the theme from the HBO series Game of Thrones. The free concert annually attracts about 3,000 concertgoers; rain date is September 7. Novo will lead the orchestra’s 2015-16 season-opening concert on October 2 at Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts, featuring Wagner’s Overture to Tannhäuser, Sibelius’s tone poem Pohjola’s Daughter, Falla’s Interlude and Dance from La Vida Breve, and Bernstein’s Symphony No. 2 (“Age of Anxiety”) with pianist William Wolfram.
