The Abilene (Tex.) Philharmonic has extended DAVID ITKIN’s contract as music director and conductor through May 31, 2026. Now entering his eleventh season at the helm of the orchestra, Itkin is also professor and director of orchestral studies at the University of North Texas; artistic director/conductor of McCall (Idaho) Summerfest; conductor laureate of the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra, where he concluded a seventeen-year tenure as music director in 2010; and a principal faculty member for the Conductors Guild/University of North Texas International Conducting Workshop. His book Conducting Concerti was released by University of North Texas Press in 2014.
