The Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra has announced the appointment of DENNIS KIM as concertmaster. His first performance in that role will be on September 16, in a season-opening concert featuring music of Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff, and Glinka. Selected through a worldwide search process that included engagements with the BPO, Kim had spent a week with the orchestra as guest concertmaster in December 2014, when he also gave a recital for the orchestra. Born in Korea, raised in Toronto, and educated at the Curtis Institute of Music and Yale School of Music, he has held concertmaster posts with the Hong Kong Philharmonic, the Seoul Philharmonic, and most recently, Finland’s Tampere Philharmonic. As a guest concertmaster Kim has worked with the London, Bergen, Royal Stockholm, and Qatar philharmonics, and with Seoul’s KBS Orchestra.
