The Women’s Philharmonic Advocacy (WPA) Group is currently accepting 2015 WPA Performance Grant applications from orchestras and ensembles in the United States. Applications are due by 11:59 p.m., October 15, 2015. Winners will be announced in December 2015. The WPA Performance Grants encourage orchestras to perform music composed by historic and contemporary women composers. Grants range in amounts from $500 to $1,000 (available funding is $20,000). Half of the funding is reserved for youth/student groups. All U.S. orchestras, including 2012 and 2014 winners of the WPA Performance Grants, are welcome to apply. For the purposes of this grant, “orchestra” is defined as an ensemble of ten or more instruments including bowed string instruments. The Women’s Philharmonic Advocacy says that it is suggested but not required to program two works by women. The group encourages a visit by the composer herself with the audience and musicians. Particularly for youth and student groups, information and educational events should be available to the musicians as well as to audiences.
