The Houston Symphony has announced the appointment of CARLOS ANDRÉS BOTERO as musical ambassador/assistant conductor, a newly created post that aims to enhance connections with Houston’s diverse community. Since the 2014-15 season Botero has served as co-host, with Houston Symphony Music Director Andrés Orozco-Estrada, of the orchestra’s “Musically Speaking with Andrés” series at Rice University. In his new role Botero will also serve as cover conductor for all classical subscription programs; lead the pre-concert talks at classical concerts; and connect with audiences at community events, in the monthly program magazine, and online. Botero holds a doctorate in orchestral conducting from Michigan State University, a master’s degree from Eastern Michigan University, and a bachelor’s degree in viola performance from EAFIT University in his native city of Medellin, Colombia.
