The New York Philharmonic and Music Director Alan Gilbert’s season-opening gala concert on September 24 will be broadcast on PBS’s “Live from Lincoln Center” at 8pm ET. The concert marks the orchestra’s inaugural performance in Avery Fisher Hall under its new name, David Geffen Hall. The concert, which will also be broadcast live on New York classical station WQXR, will feature Grieg’s Piano Concerto with soloist Lang Lang and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7. On September 24, the Empire State Building will be lit red in celebration of the start of the Philharmonic’s 2015-16 season. On September 25 and 26, Gilbert will lead the orchestra’s first 2015-16 subscription programs, featuring LA Variations by Esa-Pekka Salonen, the orchestra’s Marie-Josée Composer-in-Residence, and Strauss’s Ein Heldenleben, which will feature solos by new Concertmaster Frank Huang.
