“The Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra has named an experienced labor relations executive as its interim president and chief executive officer—but it’s not his first experience with the RPO,” reports Todd Clausen in Friday’s (9/25) Democrat & Chronicle (Rochester, N.Y.). “In early 2012, Ralph P. Craviso’s Manhattan-based Craviso & Associates was hired by the RPO to assess the hostile standoff between then-music director Arild Remmereit and current RPO President and Chief Executive Officer Charles Owens.” As interim president and CEO he will “take over for Owens, who announced in June that he would step down on Sept. 30 after eight years in the job. ‘While we’re still conducting a national search to find a full-time replacement, we are grateful to have Mr. Craviso taking the temporary reins,’ said Jules L. Smith, chairperson of the RPO board. ‘His successful record with symphony orchestras across the country speaks for itself.’ ” Craviso, who currently directs a master’s program in performing arts administration at Roosevelt University’s Chicago College of Performing Arts, “brings expertise in working with more than 60 different symphony orchestras from across the country through his management consulting firm, Craviso & Associates.”
