The Philadelphia Youth Orchestra has announced the appointment of KENNETH BEAN as associate conductor. He will assist in the artistic operations and development of the orchestra and serve as a liaison with local schools and community music educators. Bean has performed as a freelance trumpeter; has taught in the Philadelphia public schools and in such summer programs as Kinhaven Music School and the Luzerne Music Center (Lake Luzerne, N.Y.); and has held conducting posts at the Mississippi Youth Symphony Orchestra, Northern Ohio Youth Orchestra, and Young Peoples’ Philharmonic of the Lehigh Valley. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Oberlin Conservatory of Music and a master’s in music education from Jackson (Miss.) State University.
