“Peter T. Salerno, who has twice served as interim head of the Springfield Symphony Orchestra, has accepted the post of executive director,” writes Ray Kelly on Friday (10/23) at Masslive.com (Springfield, Mass.). “Salerno has held the reins since Audrey Szychulski left in March after less than two years on the job to become the director of development with the Colorado Springs Philharmonic. He previously served as interim director for six months in 2013 after the departure of longtime SSO executive director Michael Jonnes, who now heads the Maryland Symphony Orchestra.” Salerno “is a long-time member of the orchestra’s Board of Trustees. He teaches at Bay Path University and Clark University and serves as Finance chair of the Hampden-Wilbraham Regional School Committee. Salerno said he decided to accept the post because he wants to develop a plan to safeguard the SSO’s future…. ‘Peter Salerno has been a stabilizing force in the running of the SSO. I could not be more excited, enthusiastic, and positive about the future of Springfield’s cultural jewel that is the Springfield Symphony,’ ” [SSO Music Director Kevin] Rhodes said.”
