Cellists age 18 to 30 may apply now through December 14 for the Allentown Symphony’s Schadt String Competition, which will take place in Lehigh, Pennsylvania on March 6 and 7, 2016. The competition, in its 20th year, rotates between violin, cello, and classical guitar. Competition winners receive $8,000 (first place), $2,500 (second place), and $1,500 (third place), and the first-place winner has the opportunity to perform his or her winning concerto at an Allentown Symphony concert during the 2016-17 season. Last year’s winner was 18-year-old Zeyu Victor Li, a student at Philadelphia’s Curtis Institute of Music. Previous competition winners include cellists Efe Baltacigil (2001) and Julia Bruskin (2004), and violinist Erin Keefe (2006). More information is available at the Schadt website, or contact Stephanie Kocher at skocher@allentownsymphony.org or 610-432-7961 x206.
