“The Los Angeles Philharmonic gave a sneak preview of its 2016 season at the Hollywood Bowl, dealing star pianists Lang Lang, Yuja Wang and Jean-Yves Thibaudet as face-up cards,” writes Mike Boehm in Monday’s (11/2) Los Angeles Times. “Lang will play Tchaikovsky, and Wang stars on a Gershwin and Ravel program, both with music director Gustavo Dudamel leading the Phil. Thibaudet will be part of an all-Beethoven program led by Mirga Grazinyte-Tyla, the Phil’s assistant conductor. … The sneak peak coincided with the beginning of a renewal period for subscribers this week. Sales of new subscriptions and group tickets won’t start until Feb. 9…. Conductor Nicholas McGegan will mark the 20th anniversary of his own Bowl debut, joined by mezzo-soprano Susan Graham singing Handel, and Bramwell Tovey’s programs will be inspired by Shakespeare and film classics…. A new violin concerto by Wynton Marsalis will be featured in a program lead by Cristian Macelaru…. The rock band Chicago joins the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, led by its principal conductor, Thomas Wilkins.” Other announced pops events include a singalong “Sound of Music” concert, “smooth summer jazz” concert, and “The Big Picture” movie night.
