SHIFT, a week-long festival in Washington, D.C spotlighting North American orchestras of all sizes, is now accepting applications for 2018. Presented by the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and Washington Performing Arts in cooperation with the League of American Orchestras, SHIFT celebrates the vitality, identity, and artistry of orchestras and chamber orchestras by creating an immersive festival experience in the nation’s capital. The event is composed of mini-residencies, with each participating orchestra presenting education events, symposia, and community gatherings in venues around Washington, D.C., along with full-orchestra performances in the Kennedy Center Concert Hall. By giving orchestras a national platform in Washington, D.C., and featuring community-focused programming, connectivity among orchestras, and engaging discussions, SHIFT aims to highlight the vital, high-impact work of North American orchestras. The first festival, whose participating orchestras have already been selected, will be held in 2017. Applications are now being accepted for the 2018 festival, which will take place the week of April 9, 2018. Read the Request for Proposals here, and then click here to apply.
