MATTHEW AUCOIN has been named 2016 Elaine F. Stepanek Foundation Opera Conductor at Music Academy of the West in Santa Barbara, California. He will lead the Academy Festival Orchestra and fellows from the Academy’s voice program in a new production of Smetana’s The Bartered Bride; teach a seminar on music and poetry; and help to mount his own eco-themed youth opera, Second Nature. Aucoin has served as assistant conductor at the Metropolitan Opera, guest conducted the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and led premieres of Second Nature and his opera Crossing at the Lyric Opera of Chicago and at Boston’s American Repertory Theater. Aucoin is a graduate of Harvard College and The Juilliard School.
