On December 3, League of American Orchestra President and CEO Jesse Rosen was interviewed by Marla Teyolia, associate director of community engagement at the National Center for Arts Research at Southern Methodist University. The interview posted at NCAR’s website touches upon topics including the efficiency of selling single tickets vs. subscriptions; best practices; the high volume of orchestra performances; subscriptions as a way to generate income; the high correlation between subscriptions and donations; and different models and future possibilities for subscriptions. The interview follows the release of “Reimagining the Orchestra Subscription Model,” a study released in November 2015 by the Oliver Wyman management consulting organization that was commissioned by the League of American Orchestras. That study draws on ten years of data from four million customers across 45 orchestras of varying sizes as well as a profile and preferences survey of 4,000 people who attended an orchestra concert in the last five years.
