JOSEPH PETERS has been appointed principal oboe in the Minnesota Orchestra to succeed BASIL REEVE, who retired in 2012. Peters goes to Minnesota from the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, where he has served as principal oboe since September 2014. A former fellow in the New World Symphony in Miami Beach, he has performed with numerous U.S. orchestras and festivals, including as guest principal with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and the Florida Orchestra. A former member of the Greater Twin Cities (Minn.) Youth Symphonies, he first appeared with the Minnesota Orchestra as a soloist at age eighteen. Peters has served as music director of the SUNY Buffalo State Philharmonia Orchestra, and as an oboe and conducting instructor at the SoBe Institute of the Arts in Miami Beach. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Minnesota and a master’s from Yale University.
