Boston’s New England Conservatory has announced the appointment of cellist LLUIS CLARET to its string faculty. A veteran performer and educator, Claret currently teaches at the Conservatori Superior de Música del Liceu in Barcelona, and has served on the faculties of Barcelona’s Victoria dels Angels Music School and the Toulouse Conservatory in France. He has performed with the National Symphony Orchestra (Washington, D.C.) and with prominent orchestras in Russia, Hungary, the Czech Republic, France, and the U.K.; has collaborated with numerous chamber-music partners, conductors, and composers; and performed for nearly fifteen years as a founding member of the Barcelona Trio. A native of Andorra, Claret studied in Barcelona with Enric Casals as well as in France, Italy, and the U.S. He was first-prize winner in the 1976 Pablo Casals International Cello Competition and the 1977 Rostropovich Cello Competition.
