On January 29, eighteen musicians from Virginia’s Williamsburg Symphonia will perform Mike Williamson’s The Sea Venture: Songs of the Early Settlers of Bermuda and Jamestown, at the Bermuda Festival of the Performing Arts. Music Director Janna Hymes will lead the performance at Bermuda’s Earl of Cameron Theater. The Sea Venture was commissioned by the orchestra and had its world premiere on January 25 at the Jamestown Settlement’s Robins Foundation Theater in Virginia. On the January 29 Bermuda Festival program, the Williamsburg Symphonia will also perform Debussy’s Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun (arr. Schoenberg), Ibert’s Divertissement, Copland’s Appalachian Spring Suite; and several Scott Joplin selections. “This tour will be the first international festival appearance of the Symphonia and one that speaks to its growing reputation,” said Carolyn Keurajian, the Williamsburg Symphonia’s executive director. The 2016 Bermuda Festival takes place from January 22 to March 5, with dance, music, theater, and family events.
