Grant guidelines announced for Carnegie Hall’s PlayUSA, with instrumental training for low-income and underserved students

Carnegie Hall has announced grant guidelines for the 2016-17 season of PlayUSA, which offers financial and programmatic support to programs or projects across the country that extend the accessibility of high-quality instrumental music instruction to low-income, underrepresented, and underserved K–12 students. Partner organizations receive funding, consultation with Carnegie Hall staff to address challenges and build on best practices, and training and professional development for teachers and staff, both online and in person. For the program’s pilot year of 2015-16, Carnegie Hall supported projects administered by three orchestras: the Columbus Symphony Orchestra (Ohio), the El Paso Symphony Orchestra (Texas), and the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra. For 2016-17, PlayUSA financial support includes a total of $250,000 in grants, up to $75,000 per partner. Programmatic support includes assistance with curriculum development, program management, professional development, partnership building, or evaluation. Letters of intent may be submitted online from February 15 through March 22. Carnegie Hall will then invite selected organizations to submit a full application.
