The Orchestra of Southern Utah, based in Cedar City, will present three days of events for students and families beginning on Feb. 11, when Southern Utah University will host a composer’s seminar led by L.A.-based composer and orchestrator Chad Cannon, director and founder of the Asia/America New Music Institute. The seminar will be open to the public, as will be three masterclasses given by violinist Ga Hyun Cho on Feb. 11 and 12. Fifth- and sixth-graders are invited to educational exhibits on science, technology, engineering, art, and math in the Cedar City Heritage Center, OSU’s performance venue, on Feb. 12. A Feb. 13 family event will feature OSU, a semi-professional ensemble, in selections from Pirates of the Caribbean, Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade, and the world premiere of Polynesian Rhapsody by Cedar City composer Jacob Lee, which will include dancers from the Southern Utah University Polynesian Club.
