“A new music festival is coming to Richmond,” writes Colleen Curran in Tuesday’s (2/9) Richmond Times-Dispatch (Virginia). “The RVA East End Festival: The Gift of Music will be held at Chimborazo Park from May 6-8 this spring, the city of Richmond announced today. The new music festival will be held under the Richmond Symphony’s ‘Big Tent,’ which was used at the UCI Road World Championships in the fall. The festival will feature three days of music from the Richmond Symphony, the Richmond Symphony Youth Orchestra and many other groups. All the proceeds will go to purchasing musical instruments for students in East End public schools. The goal is to raise $100,000. ‘This is a party with a purpose,’ Councilwoman Cynthia I. Newbille from the 7th District said at the announcement. … There are plans for the Richmond Symphony’s ‘Big Tent’ to move around to different locations in the city in the months and the years ahead. David Fisk, the symphony’s executive director, said, ‘Part of the reason for doing it here is to invite visitors to come to Church Hill and see what Chimborazo Park and all of this neighborhood has to offer.’… The festival is free to attend.”
