“Mild weather isn’t this winter’s only unusual trait,” writes Zachary Lewis in Saturday’s (2/7) Cleveland Plain Dealer. “This season also may be remembered for another early release of the Cleveland Orchestra’s Blossom Music Festival calendar. … Orchestra staff said the information should come out earlier from now on, in an effort to allow patrons more time to plan and purchase tickets. … More than just the usual array of classical and pops favorites, the 2016 lineup is an eclectic mix of substantial works for orchestra, classical war-horses, movie nights, and popular presentations of every stripe. … Among those slated to return in 2016 are cellist Yo-Yo Ma, violinist Pinchas Zukerman, and pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet, as well as conductors Jahja Ling, Jack Everly, Hans Graf, and Nicholas McGegan. [Cleveland Orchestra] Music Director [Franz] Welser-Möst also will make an appearance, kicking off the season July 9 with Beethoven and Strauss, and on July 17, Bramwell Tovey will lead a program celebrating the National Park Service Centennial and the 2011 dedication of land around Blossom Music Center for conservation. . … All tickets are eligible for the Cleveland Orchestra’s ongoing ‘Under 18s Free’ program.”
