The Portland-based Oregon Symphony has appointed NORMAN HUYNH to the post of Harold and Arlene Schnitzer Associate Conductor, effective August 1, 2016. He is now completing a three-year tenure as assistant conductor of the Portland (Maine) Symphony Orchestra. Huynh, who has also been named assistant conductor of Spoleto Festival USA in South Carolina starting this summer, has guest conducted the Baltimore, Toledo, and Virginia symphony orchestras, among others, and has served as assistant conductor at several opera companies. He holds a master’s degree in orchestral conducting from the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University. Huynh trained with Kurt Masur in Leipzig as recipient of the 2015 Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy Scholarship.
