Kentucky’s Owensboro Symphony Orchestra has been performing on Tuesdays during the month of February at the Wendell Foster’s Campus for Developmental Disabilities, based in Owensboro, as part of its new “Music on Call” community-engagement program at several Owensboro locations. A violin-guitar duo from the orchestra performed classical, folk, and bluegrass music on February 9, followed by a woodwind trio in music by Copland and contemporary composers on February 16, and a “Kindermusik” program on February 23 that includes hands-on activities for residents. At the launch event of “Music on Call” at Owensboro Regional Hospital in December, the orchestra “received great feedback from hospital employees, patients and hospital visitors about the healing and relaxing atmosphere that was provided by the live music in the hospital lobby,” said Sara Jackson, the orchestra’s director of marketing.
