From March 15 to April 3, New York’s Orchestra of St. Luke’s will perform live for all 21 performances of Paul Taylor’s American Modern Dance season at Lincoln Center’s David H. Koch Theater. Donald York will conduct the orchestra in music including selections from Schubert symphonies (Mercuric Tidings), Bach violin concertos (Esplanade), Debussy’s Images, Stokowski’s Bach orchestrations (Promethean Fire), Poulenc’s Gloria (Beloved Renegade), and excerpts from Donizetti and Gilbert and Sullivan operas for dance programs entitled Also Playing and Sullivaniana. The collaboration with Paul Taylor’s American Modern Dance is the second season of the partnership between the two organizations, and represents the restoration of live orchestral accompaniment for the dance troupe, which for several years has danced only to recorded music.
