In Tuesday’s (3/22) New York Times, Michael Cooper writes that Lincoln Center “is to announce on Tuesday that it is awarding Avery Fisher Career Grants worth $25,000 each to three violinists, a cellist and a pianist. The recipients of the 2016 career grants—which are given to young musicians or chamber ensembles with the potential for major careers—are Alexi Kenney, Tessa Lark and Sean Lee, who are violinists; Jay Campbell, a cellist; and George Li, a pianist. The recipients will perform when the grants are announced on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the Jerome L. Greene Performance Space at WQXR’s studios in New York, an event which will be streamed live and broadcast on the station…. With the newest crop of winners, 141 Avery Fisher Career Grants have been awarded. Former recipients include the pianists Jonathan Biss and Yuja Wang; the clarinetist Anthony McGill; the violinists Augustin Hadelich and Hilary Hahn; and the Escher Quartet.” The Avery Fisher Career Grants are separate from the larger Avery Fisher Prize, “awarded more sporadically to recognize outstanding achievements in music.”
