On March 31, the Houston Symphony will perform the U.S. premiere of Collage, A Concerto for Four Horns and Orchestra by James Horner, who died in a plane crash in June 2015. The piece, Horner’s last completed work, was commissioned by the Houston Symphony and the International Horn Society. Serving as featured horn soloists will be Principal Horn William VerMeulen, Associate Principal Horn Robert Johnson, and guest hornists Richard Watkins and David Pyatt. Guest conductor Michael Francis will lead the program at Jones Hall, which also includes Rachmaninoff’s Symphonic Dances and Korngold’s The Sea Hawk. Among the films Horner scored are Titanic, Braveheart, and Avatar. The world premiere of Collage took place in London on March 27, 2015 with the London Philharmonic.
