The Detroit Symphony Orchestra’s musicians have shed their traditional concert garb (which have been the ensemble’s official concert attire for the last 129 years) in favor of Carhartt bib overalls. The change, said the orchestra in a Friday press release, was made to promote its goal to be the most accessible orchestra on the planet. Founded in 1887, the DSO is says it is “proud to partner with a fellow Detroit institution.” The bib overall was Carhartt’s first product, designed in 1889 for railroad workers.
