ELIM CHAN has been named chief conductor of NorrlandsOperan in Umea, Sweden; her three-year term begins in the fall of 2017. A native of Hong Kong, Chan was first-prize winner in the 2014 Donatella Flick Conducting Competition, the first woman to receive that honor. The prize resulted in her appointment as assistant conductor of the London Symphony Orchestra, where she is currently completing her one-year term. She will make her North American conducting debut with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra in spring 2017.
