The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington D.C. and Minneapolis’s Cowles Center are the venues for arts forums being held on April 25 and 26, respectively. Cellist Yo-Yo Ma and soprano Renée Fleming will co-host the Kennedy Center event on Monday, which will focus on three themes: service, collaboration, and action. Speakers include U.S. Surgeon General Vivek H. Murthy, philanthropist David M. Rubenstein, visual artist Carrie Mae Weems, and dancer Damian Woetzel. The event will also include performances by dancer Charles “Lil Buck” Riley, slam poet Ayinde Grimes, cellist Joshua Roman, and the Silk Road Ensemble. The Washington D.C. forum will be broadcast live online. On Tuesday in Minneapolis, Star Tribune theater critic/arts reporter Graydon Royce will moderate a panel discussion about the changing landscape of the arts in America. Panelists include Kyu-Young Kim (St. Paul Chamber Orchestra artistic director); Joseph Haj (Guthrie Theater artistic director); Olga Viso (Walker Art Center director); Kaywin Feldman (Minneapolis Institute of Art director); and Sarah Bellamy (Penumbra Theatre co-artistic director). The Minneapolis event is hosted by the Star Tribune and is free, but tickets are required.
