“One of the best aspects of being a part of the St. Cloud Symphony Orchestra is sharing a music stand with someone who might be half or even a third of your age, violinist Beverley Williams said,” writes Kate Kompas in Wednesday’s (4/27) St. Cloud Times (St. Cloud, MN). “This just shows the variety of people who belong to the St. Cloud Symphony Orchestra … Williams has been with the orchestra since the beginning … 40 years ago. The St. Cloud Symphony Orchestra is celebrating its anniversary Thursday with a gala event…. The orchestra has grown from about 50 people then to about 70 now…. Williams and [bassist Steven] Eckblad [say] the orchestra helps bring a sense of community to the area and the musicians …. When the symphony started, both concerts were in the spring. Now it plays seven concerts a year … The St. Cloud Symphony Orchestra has lasted so long because of the wonderful musicians, and the wonderful funders, interim executive director Lucia Magney said. ‘A lot of people who love symphony orchestra might not want to travel all the way to the [Twin] Cities, and this orchestra is very good,’ she said.”
