“Ayden Adler, former senior VP and dean of the New World Symphony in Miami, is to be the new dean of the DePauw University School of Music, effective July 1,” writes Nicholas Beard in Friday’s (5/6) MusicalAmerica.com. “She succeeds D. Mark McCoy, who is to become the school’s president. DePauw lays claim to being the sixth-oldest private institution for post-secondary music instruction in the country, and the oldest in the state [of Indiana]. Prior to New World, which she left when John Kieser arrived last August, Adler was from 2010-12 executive director of the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra. From 2007-10 she was director of education and community partnerships for the Philadelphia Orchestra and before that in a similar position with the Atlanta Symphony. She was for 10 years a tenured horn player with the Rochester Philharmonic and served on the faculty of the Eastman School of Music. Adler holds degrees from Princeton University (BA), the Juilliard School (MM), and the Eastman School of Music (MA, DMA, PhD). She is currently writing a book based on her dissertation, Classical Music for People Who Hate Classical Music: Arthur Fiedler and the Boston Pops, 1930-1950.”
