The Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra’s three-week Summermusik 2016 festival will begin on August 12 with a cocktail supper at Cincinnati’s Maxwelton House featuring music led by Daniel Meyer, one of the CCO’s five music director candidates. Meyer will lead a full program of Copland, Ravel, and Haydn the following evening at SCPA Corbett Theater. Three other music director candidates will lead concerts this summer: Christopher Zimmermann (August 20), Sarah Ioannides (August 27), and Eckart Preu (September 1). Conductor Kelly Kuo, the fifth candidate, was featured at last summer’s Summermusik festival. In addition to chamber orchestra concerts at SCPA’s Corbett Theater, Summermusik will include a Chamber Crawl Concert series at Cincinnati and northern Kentucky nightclubs including Bromwell’s Härth Lounge, Below Zero, The Redmoor, and The Sanctuary. An informal three-concert series on Sunday afternoons will take place at the Wyoming Fine Arts Center, Greenacres Arts Center in Indian Hill, and the Cincinnati Art Museum. The festival will feature the premiere of a remix based on Beethoven, with cellist Joshua Roman and hip-hop artists from Elementz; the world premiere of Robert Sierra’s Caribbean Rhapsody; and Piazzola’s Four Seasons of Buenos Aires (arr. Leonid Desyatnikov), with violinist Chee-Yun.
