The New Jersey Symphony Orchestra has selected four composers for the 2016 NJSO Edward T. Cone Composition Institute. The composers and their orchestral works are James Anderson (Places with Pillars); Matthew Browne (Farthest South); Will Stackpole (…Ask Questions Later); and Jung Yoon Wie (Water Prism). Presented July 11-16 in collaboration with the Princeton University Department of Music, and funded in part by Edward T. Cone Foundation, the institute is designed to promote new music and emerging composers. This year’s participants were selected from an international applicant pool of university composition students and early-career composers. The four composers will each have a work rehearsed and performed by the NJSO; participate in masterclasses with Institute Director Steven Mackey; receive feedback from guest conductor David Roberston and NJSO musicians; and attend sessions with industry leaders from New Music USA, music publishers Boosey & Hawkes and Subito Music Corporation, and WQXR’s online new-music station Q2 Music.
