Beginning this summer, the Minnesota Orchestra is offering “Bike to Orchestra Hall,” a 50 percent ticket discount for audience members who ride their bikes to concerts. Audience members who show their helmets or bike gear at the Orchestra Hall box office are eligible for the discount, which will begin with the orchestra’s Sommerfest concerts in July and continue into the regular 2016-17 concert season. Says Minnesota Orchestra horn player Ellen Dinwiddie Smith, who is a regular bike rider, “This is a fabulous way to get exercise and hear great music. Minnesota is a very active state and there are many bike riders in the Orchestra. As musicians we need the cardio for our lung power, and the constant motion combats the long hours we spend sitting while practicing.”
