The Summerville Orchestra has announced the appointment of Wojciech Milewski as music director, reports Monica Kreber in Tuesday’s (5/31) Summerville Journal Scene (South Carolina). Milewski “was selected from an international field of 63 applicants, narrowed down to four finalists who each conducted one of the four [2015-16] concerts…. Naomi Nimmo, executive director of the orchestra, said all four conductors were ‘terrific.’ The audience had the chance to give feedback on the conductors via a survey after each concert. Milewski, she said, got the majority of the best reviews.” Milewski “most recently conducted the El Paso Opera, the Albuquerque Philharmonic Orchestra, and this summer will serve as Assistant Conductor for the Opera NEO festival in San Diego. He co-founded and served as the Music Director of the Health Sciences Center Orchestra in Albuquerque. Milewski is also a professional pianist, clarinetist and coach. He will lead Summerville Orchestra’s 2016-17 season, which starts in November, as well as their 9/11 Memorial Concert in September, according to the [Summerville Orchestra] news release.”
