The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra has named RAQUEL WHITING GILMER to the newly created post of executive director of OrchKids, the BSO’s year-round music program serving schoolchildren in the city’s neediest neighborhoods. Whiting Gilmer was most recently executive vice president of academic support at Learn It Systems, which provides academic enrichment and professional services to public, private, and charter schools in 150 school districts nationwide. She has also served as senior director of community and business development for Educate Online, a division of Sylvan Learning, and founded the Perfectly Me Girls Program and the Baltimore Bee regional spelling bee. A Baltimore native, she holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Princeton University and a doctoral degree from the University of Virginia School of Law. Whiting Gilmer was named to this year’s Top 100 Women list by Maryland Daily Record, and to the 2015 Smart CEO list of Baltimore Executive Management Award winners.
