The deadline is June 13 to apply for the Allentown Symphony Orchestra’s competition for composers based in Pennsylvania’s Greater Lehigh Valley. Composers may submit short variations (from 30 seconds to two minutes in length) based on the theme of Elgar’s Enigma Variations. Submissions will be accepted in four age categories—kindergarten through eighth grade, high school/college, adult-advanced, and adult-amateur. Winning variations in each category will be featured in a larger work to be composed by Larry Lipkis and performed on the Allentown Symphony’s November 5 and 6 concerts. Composers must reside in Lehigh, Northampton, Monroe, Carbon, Schuylkill, Berks, Montgomery, or Bucks counties in Pennsylvania; or New Jersey’s Warren or Hunterdon counties.
